BREAKING: Ventura County Fire

The News Wire is monitoring fast moving Santa Ana Wind driven brush fire burning south of Fillmore in Ventura County.

The fire, which broke out around 10:30 a.m., is burning south of state route 126 in an easterly direction towards Moorpark.

UPDATE 2:30 p.m.: Fire officials confirm around 6,000-acres have burnt.

Evacuations have been ordered for around 200 homes north of Broadway and east of Grimes Canyon.

The Red Cross has set up an evacuation center at Goebel Senior Center located at 1385 e. Janss Road in Thousand Oaks.

Large animals may be evacuated to the Ventura County Fairgrounds.

UPDATE 3:47 p.m.: A report from the Ventura County Fire Department says this fire may have started as an result of a large pile of manure that spontaneously combusted.

Various media reports indicate eastern Moorpark residents are being asked to evacuate.

The California Highway Patrol has closed state route 23 near Fillmore. The fire is burning on both sides of the highway.

UPDATE 3:16 p.m.: Ventura County Fire Department Battalion Chief John Moland reports two firefighters suffered smoke inhalation.

UPDATE 1:40 p.m.: A wind shift has blown smoke and flames back towards Fillmore.

Unconfirmed reports say the fire has grown to at least 300-acres.

Ventura County Fire Prevention Officer Rod Torres told KCAL-TV that "at least 150 firefighters are on the way" to help battle the flames.

Several large ranch houses are in the area and threaten.

Ventura County Fire Department spokesman Ron Oatman told KCAL-TV eight firefighting fixed-wing aircraft are en route to help battle the flames.

Aerial footage from KCAL-TV shows an structure fully involved in flames. It is unclear what type of structure is burning.

Red Flag Warning

The red flag warning issued for Southern California by the National Weather Service late Monday and has been extended through Thursday evening.
