Commuter Blues

Construction of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's Expo Line will cause indefinite delays up to 40 minutes for Blue Line riders.

According to the MTA delays are expected between the Washington Station and the 7th Street Metro Center in downtown Los Angeles.

To help alleviate delays Metro buses will be provided between the two stations and will stop at San Pedro Street, Grand Avenue and Pico Boulevard stations.

What is the holdup?

Construction finishing up connecting the Expo Line and Blue Line was suppose to begin today, however an test train revealed problems on an newly constructed portion of the Expo Line.

Those problems revealed by the test train are currently under investigated by the MTA.

Once completed the Expo Line will run from downtown L.A. to Culver City paralleling most of Exposition Boulevard.

The downtown L.A. portion of the Expo Line will share tracks and two stations with the Blue Line along Flower Street.

As such in addition to the current delay MTA officials plan to close the two Blue Line station at least eight times in the early part of next year to help accelerate completion of the Expo Line.
